The Lunch with Charlie meeting in Lexington Park that was moved to the Lexington Park Restaurant was a huge success. We had a room to ourselves and 12 members attended. The food was great. We even had separate checks. So the group will move permanently to this location.

Our Brothers and Sisters in Florida have a Lunch Bunch that meets in Florida at selected locations. See the Florida Retiree web site for locations and times.

HR 218 Firearms Qualifications

Retired Association Members:

Chief Roberto Hylton, Major Dave Morris, and Brother Rusty Watson have helped bring some relief to the recent HR 218 problems. The retired officer needs to be qualified by a Maryland State Qualified instructor such as Brother Harry Adams and Brother Jeff Henderson. The member then takes that qualification certificate and their notarized affidavit to Brother Watson at the Prince Georges County range and Brother Watson will issue a card in place of the card formerly issued by the Maryland State Police. Please remember there is not a notary at the range. Apparently the Maryland State Police no longer issue card to retired officers that have a department that issues cards. We are in possession of a letter mailed to an officer from another county who followed the State Police directions but was denied because his department issued cards. In fact the letter stated they would issue cards to departments that are "Allied" with the Maryland State Police. Not sure what this means. It is a change no one was made aware of.

To Be Announced
Please be prompt. If you need to cancel, please contact the range ASAP so the vacancy can be filled with another shooter. Retirees scheduled to qualify at the Prince George's County Police Firearms Range on Dyson Rd. must bring with them the notarized Affidavit in order to receive a certification card.

Charles County HR 218
Retiree’s interested in receiving their LEOSA / H. R. 218 qualification may do so by attending a course provided by the Charles County Sheriff’s Office. It consists of two hours classroom followed by 30 rounds day and 30 rounds night for a total of a 60 round qualification course. The course is $30. All shooters are required to supply their own ammunition. Please call Jeff Henderson (PGPD Ret.) at (240) 832-2846 with any questions.

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

FOP Lodge 89 and the PGPD Retirees’ Association try to keep the membership abreast of issues affecting our fellow members. Those issues include births, illnesses, injuries and/or deaths. The only way we obtain information is usually through family, friends and you—the affected member’s brothers and sisters. We do our best as a fraternal organization to get that information out to the membership as quickly and as timely as possible.

Members should contact the FOP during regular business hours at 301-952-0882 or via email. When making any notification to the FOP, please provide as much information and details as possible. Any delay in posting or omission is unintentional. Also, any issues or concerns should be directed to me—since I have ultimate authority in what information is or is not disseminated on behalf of the FOP. I would greatly appreciate everyone’s assistance with this matter. Thank you for your time and attention.

Ismael “Vince” Canales, President, FOP Lodge 89
