Death notification and Funeral Arrangements for Retired Sgt. Ed Rice

Ed” Harold Rice passed away on May 22, 2023 with his wife Amy by his side.

Born October 14, 1943 in Hopedale, Massachusetts, Ed attended Oberlin College Conservatory of Music in Ohio before he joined the Air Force in 1964. After the Air Force, Ed attended the University of Maryland, receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree, magna cum laude, in Criminal Justice.

Ed began his career in 1967 with the Prince George’s County Police Department and retired in 1986 as a Sergeant from the Bowie District. After his retirement, Ed started a second career in 1991 as an entrepreneur, opening and operating Babe’s Saloon and later Luke’s Grille, in Kent Island, MD. Ed was an accomplished pianist, an aficionado of jazz. He took pride in his business on the eastern shore. He had profound respect for his patrons and friends as was expressed by his unequaled generosity. His personal responsibility toward others was worthy of emulation and evidenced by his support of his colleagues, personally and professionally. He had a wicked sense of humor and a hearty laugh that would echo around the room. By any measure, Ed was a good guy!

Ed was predeceased by his parents, Rita and Harold Rice, his brother John and sister Patricia. He is survived by his wife Amy (Ryzenga), his daughter Lisa Rice Fiocchi of Monument Colorado, and grandchildren, Luke Edward and Sarah Claire.

A celebration of life will take place at Mariners Church on Whitehall Road in Annapolis, Maryland on Wednesday, May 31, 2023 at 11:00 a.m.
