**CALL TO ACTION – ACT NOW!!**

Brothers and Sister,

 

Throughout this legislative session we have attempted to fix the mistake in SB1 from last session that left retirees without the exemption needed in section 6-411.  We have discussed this with Legislatiors since the mistake was made and each week throughout the session.  We have hit a point where it is apparent that there is not going to be an attempt to fix this for us this session despite the assurances we have been given every step of the way since last year that it would be fixed.  

 

Attached is a letter from me to the membership explaining that we need to engage in a mass phone call barrage of the Judiciary and JPR committees to let them know of our concerns and issues with the lack of this fix and directing all of them to contact Senators Will Smith and Jeff Waldstreicher to fix the issue as promised.  

 

It is imperative that you call the members of JPR and Judiciary so we can obtain volume and let them know how many people this is affecting and upsetting.  Active and retired need to stand together on this and you can have your family and friends call as well.  We need everyone to call.  

 

As of now, due to the lawsuits filed against SB1 there is currently a partial injunction that has prevented the section of law that has the mistake as well as others parts from taking effect.  Without this fix, if the injunction is lifted or the lawsuit is lost or abandoned, then the retirees would fall prey to this omission in 6-411 and not be exempt from its restrictions.  

 

Please take time tomorrow to call and have others call the members of Judiciary and JPR.  If you call the Senator or Delegate in the area you live in make sure you let them know that you are in their district as that means a lot more to them.
